Daxon Online Fashion

Sometimes I find to get the best bargains you have to look places you wouldn't normally. I heard about Daxon from another blog and was curious so I had a good virtual rummage through their website. I found a few gems in their accessories section; the following are my faves:

Also Daxon are currently offering a £50 voucher to any blogger who joins their VIP Blogger Network, which I thought was an offer too good to resist! You can apply here but it has to be by today!

Witch Make Up

I first heard about Witch make up through another blog and instantly thought it was an amazing idea. Witch are a brand that use mainly witch hazel in their skin care products, which are aimed at young people with problem skin. The idea of make up that not only looks good but also benefits your skin had me really impressed so I rushed out to buy some as soon as I could! Their range currently includes concealer and primer (shown above), BB cream, tinted moisturiser and pressed powder.

I have previously used Benefit's Porefessional and 17's primer and compared to those, this one is completely different in texture. While I expect primer to be like a paste, this one is more like a gel. However it goes on to the skin really nicely and doesn't feel like it is clogging the pores which is an issue I've had with other brands. My foundation looks lovely over it and I feel the primer really makes it last longer. Since using this primer my skin has been a lot clearer so it's definitely a winner in my book!

I was a bit sceptical over this at first as it only comes in one colour, however I decided to give it a go anyway and although it looks like it would be too dark for me, it looks fine against my pale skin tone. It is packaged like a long, thin lipstick and I'm a bit iffy about putting it directly onto my skin but this is the only way to get the best coverage. I have definitely used concealers with better coverage, however this one feels a lot nicer on my skin. It smells slightly medicine-y but isn't too overpowering. I've only been using this for a few days but have already noticed an improvement in my skin, any spots I use it on have cleared up quicker than when I was using regular concealer.

London Calling

Just a mini post today, I am seriously excited about going to London next week with my friend Ashley and have all these ideas and things I want to do swimming around my head to varying songs and soundtracks. Here are my favourite three songs about London :)

London Calling by The Clash, beginning with an obvious one!

London Hates You by The Kills. I don't really 'get' this song but I love The Kills so it doesn't really matter!

The Aspidistra Flies by Stars; "All the umbrellas in London couldn't hide my love for you, all the rain on Thameside couldn't stop it shining through".
I saw this band live last time I was in London and they closed with this song, it was absolutely amazing :)

Christmas Day

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas! I was straight back to work today and I ate the last piece of Quorn roast (veggie alternative to turkey, if anyone's wondering) this morning so I guess it's officially over!! I had a nice two days of relaxing with my family, eating an insane amount of chocolate and playing quiz games.

Santa kindly brought me some GHDs, which was very generous of him, along with some smellies, LOADS of Cadbury's Fabulous Fingers, a shoe rack for my room at Uni, a new onesie and lots of Very Hungry Caterpillar goodies. The best present of all, however, was from my sister; she bought me a copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone which she had gone through with tiny sticky labels and changed every instance of 'wand' to 'willy'. What a legend! It is absolutely hilarious and I still can't believe she actually had the patience to do it!

On to some photos of my day, I didn't take many as I was too busy eating (chocolate), drinking (wine) and generally being merry.

Apple-shaped 'party plate' from Santa, too scared to ever use this in case I break it!

Being a Cadbury's fiend - in total I got five trays of Fabulous Fingers!

Obligatory picture of my dinner!

Chocolates my incredibly talented little sister made me

Merry Christmas!

GPOY, Christmas edition

Just a quick post to say Merry Christmas to everyone! Due to the traditional Christmas bedroom-swap (my Nan always comes to stay and it always results in bedroom swapping to put her in the nicest-decorated room) I am currently in my sister's bedroom. Hopefully she won't mind the world seeing her insane collection of organised folders and books behind me!

Now that I've finally finished work (three days off, woohoo!) I'm finally beginning to feel festive. I'm more excited to see people opening the presents I've got them than the other way around, I feel so grown up :D

I'd like to say I'll be able to get back to posting more regularly now that my manic week of work is over but really with Christmas and seeing family and then going to London next week (OMG EXCITE) I don't think it's going to happen until I go back to Uni and get back into my normal routine in the second week of January. Of course there will be a massive bumper post of London antics! And if I get any new beauty products/clothes etc. tomorrow I will post some reviews/outfits. So to summarise my rambling, have an awesome Christmas guys! I will speak to you all soon :)

Fave Hair Products

Just in case anyone is wondering, this week is going to involve a lot more beauty/product/review posts as I have work pretty much every day and am therefore going between my uniform and my pyjamas! As I've said before, I haven't really got a clue about beauty products but I try to give my honest opinions, so I hope my reviews make sense and people actually like reading them!

I also wanted to say how nice it is to have reached 40 followers! Maybe when I get to 50 I will do a mini giveaway :)

Believe it or not I actually have really thick, hard-to-manage hair. Not only does my Tangle Teezer make my hair easier to brush without pain and shrieking, but it is sparkly and purple! What more could you want?!

I use this after I've straightened my hair, I basically lift up sections of my hair, spray the underneaths (trying to avoid the roots) and then scrunch it into the style I want. It gives my hair really great texture without making it feel weighed down, although my advice is not to use too much otherwise it can make your hair feel sticky and crispy, not nice!

This is currently in my collection because last year I did a food shop at Asda online, and originally ordered this heat-defence spray, but it was out of stock so Asda sent me the next best thing. I actually really like it; it does the same job as any other heat defence spray but helps to hold a style such as curling or straightening. For a little extra hair protection boost I also use Pantene Instant Damage Defence Spray (not pictured because I've just run out!) on my ends for extra shine/flyaway control.

I've already reviewed this here but now as you can see I've pretty much used it up, proving that I think it's amazing and all the hype is definitely justified. The only thing putting me off repurchasing it is the price, I'm interested to see if there's anything similar available that might be a bit more purse-friendly!

Batiste Tropical Dry Shampoo
I love dry shampoo, I honestly can't get enough of it. It helps banish greasy hair but also adds texture and volume and makes my hair so much easier to style. The tropical one by Batiste is just the nicest smell! As you can see I have invested in the biggest size they have, but I also have miniatures dotted around at Uni and in my handbag!

Skincare Routine

Now, if there's anything I know I'm NOT, it's a beauty expert. I have my set list of products that work for me and that I'm happy with. I don't buy in to expensive 'high-end' skin care products because I don't believe that there is much difference between them and the more reasonably priced ones. Here are the four main products I use on my face every day.

I've been using this for ages as when I was younger I had really greasy, bad skin and this is a bit more 'heavy duty' than your average facial wash/scrub. I normally just put it on in the shower and rub it off with some water, then rinse my face to make sure it's all gone, but you can also leave it on for a bit longer as a mask if you feel you need a bit more cleansing power! It can make my skin feel a bit dry but as long as it's combined with the right moisturiser etc. it's fine.

I use this in the evening after I've taken my make up off (with whatever make up wipes have been on offer recently! Usually Simple, Johnson's or Boots' own brand) just to make sure all my make up is completely gone and to remove that oily feeling you can get from wipes sometimes. It makes my skin feel super fresh and lovely, and it smells amazing!

Clean & Clear Shine Control Moisturiser
Sadly, I don't think they make this any more! I can't find it on Boots' or Superdrug's websites. It's basically a really luxurious-feeling moisturiser that makes my skin feel soft but not greasy or shiny. As a back up I'd recommend this one.

Neutrogena Visibly Clear Triple Action Lotion
Again, because I am a product hoarder with a massive 'back up stash', this product is one that is no longer available at Boots or Superdrug! However I'm not particularly attached to this product, I only use it because I feel I should use something between cleansing and moisturising my face to tighten my pores. I've nearly run out of this so I think I might turn to this one next.

#SWBXmas

Yesterday I was lucky enough to go to the South West Bloggers Christmas tea party at the Birdcage in Bristol. I had a really lovely time and it was so exciting to meet so many bloggers!

The Birdcage is a really nice venue, it's part coffee shop, part vintage shop and part music venue. We were treated to tea and a piece of cake, 10% off in the shop and then live music from Jilk who I thought were amazing. The atmosphere there was incredible, it was homely and cozy but really exciting too; there was so much to look at from the mis-matched tea cups and teapots to the custom wallpaper to all the furniture, displays and items in the shop.

Bikes on the wall, crazy but cool!

Christmas jumpers!

Here's a photo (courtesy of South West Bloggers facebook page) of me and Rai from BlargleFargle who I have been following for a while (try telling people that without sounding like a stalker!), it was really nice to finally meet her in person!
(My outfit: Matalan top, vintage cardi, Miss Selfridge skirt, Office flatforms, Crown&Glory bow)

As if we weren't spoilt enough with free cake and music, I also got a beautiful vintage scarf and some sweeties in my goodie bag, a hairbrush and some Macadamia Oil products and the amazing Sophie from Crown and Glory gave me a free sparkly bow, which I haven't taken off since I got it!

Thank you so much to Lyzi, Hayley and Gina for organising this party, I had an amazing time and can't wait for the next one!!

Red Hair is Red

(Top from Primark, watch from Asos, necklace from Topshop)

Last night I dyed the underneath part of my hair red. If anyone remembers this post you'll know I had a few problems with the Live XXL Foam, mainly that it didn't work! I messaged the company and they sent me £6 in vouchers so I bought a box of blonde (the lightest I could find) and a box of Live Salon Style in Intense Red.

I bleached the underside of my hair about six weeks ago (you can see it best here) and then couldn't be bothered to put the red in, and eventually it got to a point where I thought I might as well wait because then it should still be fresh and bright for my Christmas parties this weekend (#SWBXmas anyone?!).

The dye was super easy to use and didn't even smell too bad (although maybe I'm just immune after seven years of dying my hair!), my only complaint would be that there probably wouldn't be enough product in the bottle to dye my entire head of hair. If your hair is my length or longer I'd definitely recommend using two boxes!

I really love the colour in my hair, and I think the style is a fun variation on the dip dye that seems to be all the rage at the moment! If I wear my hair down the red isn't very noticeable which makes it appropriate for work, but if I tuck it behind my ears or wear it up it looks all bright and shiny and fun :D I've had my hair all red before and it's just too much maintenance for me! At least when this starts to fade/grow out it shouldn't be too noticeable. Maybe when it fades light enough I'll dye it blue or something mad like that, who knows!

Lumberjack

First of all I would like to apologise for constantly wearing the same skirt! It's my fave and I can't help that it goes with everything.

Second of all I would like to apologise for not posting for over a week! My camera charger went missing (found it in my underwear drawer, of course...?) and I've been pretty busy; Josh came to stay, I went to a roller derby practice with Cardiff Roller Girls (it was AWESOME) and I've been working on some assignments.

So I've been a bit crap recently and I'm afraid to say I'm not going to get much better over the next couple of weeks! I got my Christmas work hours a few days ago and I am working eight hours every day in the week leading up to Christmas! It's gonna be crazy! And then in the New Year my lovely friend Ashley is taking me to London to see The Lion King :D So basically what I'm thinking is, does anybody want to write a guest post for my blog? It can be anything, beauty-related, craft/DIY, charity shop finds, outfits, just send me an email with your idea to rosiebaldwin@rocketmail.com and I'll get back to you and we can sort something out!

Graze Nibblebox

I got my very first Graze box in the post this morning, very exciting stuff! For those who don't know, Graze is a company that sends you snacks in the post. You sign up to their website, rate different foods that you like/don't like and then every week/two weeks (you decide how often) they send you a selection of healthy and nutritious treats!

I applied through studentbeans.com and got my first box free, and then because I rated so many snacks (I got excited!) I am entitled to my next box half price! What a bargain! There are also other ways you can get freebies/discounts such as recommending friends and family to sign up, which I am definitely going to do! My box normally costs £3.89 and postage is free, which I think is great value considering the wonderful service and quality of the products.

The packaging this week is adorable, I'm definitely going to keep this box as some kind of storage (although they are recyclable). The boxes are designed to be letter-box sized so no worries if you're not home when it arrives. The snacks are in little plastic sealed tubs and you also get a napkin, and I got a cocktail stick thingy for my olives. The box also came with a little 'welcome' card with nutritional information on, and a little book of tips to get the most out of the Graze box service.

The treats I got this week are:
'Yin and Yang' - a mix of almonds, cherries, raisins and dark chocolate buttons
Apple and cinnamon flapjacks
'Bonnie Wee Oatbakes' with red onion marmalade (YUM)
Green olives with basil and garlic.

It is taking all the self-restraint I have (which isn't a lot!) to not eat all these treats in one go! I can't wait to see what else I get in my next box!

Winter Maxi Take Two

This is the same maxi I wore here, except today I am actually going to wear it out of the house! It's a teeny bit warmer today than it has been recently so I don't need to wear a huge coat! And you can only just tell but I'm wearing my studded Vectras from Topshop on my feet, which I haven't been able to do for a while because of  the rain!

I woke up super early this morning and got dressed to go to a lecture, but then found out it has been cancelled, annoying! However at least I have a whole day to be productive now, so I'm going to return some library books and then pop into town to get some photos developed.

It's also nearly time to say goodbye to my orange hair. I bleached it ages ago with the intention of dying it red, but never got around to the red part! I'm going to dye it next week before all my parties and blogger meets :)

10 Things I Love About Christmas

I saw this feature on Holly's blog here and thought it was a really nice idea. I've decided to do my list in just one post because I've got a pretty busy month ahead and I know I'll get to about 7 then forget!

(Not entirely relevant but still funny!)

So in no particular order, my 10 favourite things about Christmas and the festive season are:

1. The food! I love that it's somehow excusable to eat an insane amount of food at this time of year. Even my Nan who has diabetes, bless her, always sneaks in extra dessert!

2. The drink! I also love that it is also excusable to drink rum in your coffee at 11am on Christmas Day, well, my parents seem to think it is anyway! My Mum always gets about five bottles of Bailey's as presents and my Dad the same but with Port. And my Nan always gets tipsy at lunch time and tells some embarrassing story about my Dad when he was younger!

3. Being with my family. Especially now that my sister and I are at Uni, it's not often that we get all of us together for a long period of time. On Christmas day it's always my parents, my Nan and me and my sisters, then on Boxing day we go see our extended family for lunch and board games!

4. The presents! I love putting all that thought and effort into presents for my friends and family and then getting to see their reactions when they open them. And obviously I enjoy getting presents too, especially from the people closest to me because it's such a lovely feeling when someone gets it just right.

5. The parties. This year I have two blogger meet ups which is really exciting! But I love the fancy dress nights out with my friends too; last year it was Christmas themed and this year we're going out in onesies!

6. New Year's Eve. I've never really been one for big parties on New Year's Eve. I prefer spending the night in with my family, having dinner and playing games then singing Auld Lang Syne at midnight and dancing around in a circle. Last year my family all went to a party and me and Josh just ate pizzas and drank wine and watched TV with the cat all night! I think it's really nice to start the year with the people you want to spend it with.

7. Christmas films. I like to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas when it's on TV (even though I have it on DVD!), but my favourite Christmas film is probably The Holiday. Other great Christmas TV viewing includes the Shrek films and Wallace and Gromit. Oh and I used to love it when Channel 4 showed all the Friends Christmas specials! Sad times.

8. Board games. I won't lie, I like to play board games all year round. But at Christmas there's always a new one to learn and bicker about! Last year we had the Best of British game (like a trivia game) and this Wallace and Gromit sheep rustling game which was really complicated but so addictive!

9. Work. Yes it seems so weird to put this on a list of things I love about Christmas, but people always seem different around this time of year, they're more talkative and cheery and friendly. It makes work so much more fun! Also we have a fancy dress competition on Christmas Eve and the winner gets a bottle of wine, this year it will be mine!

10. Christmas songs. I love how festive just one little Christmas song can make me feel! They're always playing in shops and public places, and I like it when bands or singers on the streets play them too :)

My favourite Christmas song:
